Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level security meeting amid rising tensions following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, the majority of whom were tourists. The meeting has sparked widespread speculation about possible immediate military action targeting Pakistan-based terrorist groups.
Those present at the meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the heads of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. According to individuals familiar with the matter, the session was marked by its urgency and exceptional nature.
The meeting&rsquo;s primary focus was to assess intelligence inputs and consider a spectrum of strategic and military responses to dismantle terror networks operating across the border. Lashkar-e-Taiba, a group suspected to be behind the Pahalgam incident, has come under particular scrutiny.
India&rsquo;s armed forces have been placed on a heightened state of alert in the wake of the attack. Units stationed along the Line of Control and the international border are reported to be in a state of operational readiness.
Intelligence surveillance has also intensified. Drone activity, satellite monitoring, and electronic intercepts are being used extensively to track terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
This latest move follows earlier measures taken by the Central government, including the suspension of provisions under the Indus Waters Treaty and the order for Pakistani citizens with short-term visas to leave the country.
In a previous statement, Prime Minister Modi had vowed to track down terrorists and their enablers &ldquo;to the ends of the earth&rdquo;. The meeting on Tuesday is being interpreted as a significant step towards that objective.
While no official communication has been released regarding the decisions taken, the atmosphere in the capital remains tense. The country now watches closely as preparations signal the possibility of a strong and immediate response.
