Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a series of global initiatives at the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg, calling for coordinated international action against drug-linked terrorism, stronger health emergency preparedness, and accelerated skills development in Africa.
Addressing the session on inclusive and sustainable growth, Modi emphasised the need for a unified global front to dismantle the drug&ndash;terror economy. He proposed a G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug&ndash;Terror Nexus, aimed at curbing the spread of dangerous substances such as fentanyl and integrating financial, governance, and security tools to disrupt trafficking networks.
Modi also called for the establishment of a G20 Global Healthcare Response Team, an international pool of trained medical professionals capable of rapid deployment during health crises or natural disasters. He stressed that global resilience depends on collective, coordinated responses.
Highlighting India&rsquo;s long-standing partnership with Africa, Modi urged the G20 to scale up skill development across the continent. He announced the G20&ndash;Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, aiming to train one million certified trainers in Africa over the next decade. The move builds on the African Union&rsquo;s admission as a permanent G20 member during India&rsquo;s presidency.
Additionally, the Prime Minister proposed the creation of a G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository to preserve and share collective wisdom on health and well-being, drawing from India&rsquo;s rich heritage in traditional practices.
The proposals underline India&rsquo;s push for inclusive, cooperative global frameworks addressing security, development, health, and heritage.
