Starmer&rsquo;s recent visit to India, his first official trip after assuming office, saw the UK&rsquo;s largest-ever trade delegation arrive in Mumbai for wide-ranging discussions aimed at boosting economic and technological cooperation. This followed Modi&rsquo;s trip to the UK earlier in the year, during which the two leaders held meetings at the Chequers country residence to push bilateral ties forward.
Both nations have welcomed the signing of the India&ndash;UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which elevated the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The agreement is expected to significantly enhance bilateral trade, investment flow, job creation, and economic collaboration.
Earlier this month, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited London to further accelerate progress under the strategic roadmap. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also highlighted that India&ndash;UK ties have transformed from a complicated historical relationship into a dynamic, forward-looking partnership. He said the past year has been an outstanding period for growing political, economic, and defence cooperation.
The two countries are also advancing Vision 2035, a framework defined across growth, technology, defence, clean energy, and education. A dedicated defence industrial roadmap has been introduced, signalling deeper long-term collaboration.
With leadership-level engagement intensifying, both governments appear committed to driving bilateral ties into a new era of strategic alignment and global partnership.
