Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Union Cabinet, during which he described Operation Sindoor &mdash; a targeted military strike on nine terror camps across the border &mdash; as a "moment of pride" for the nation. The operation was launched in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Briefing the Cabinet, the Prime Minister stated that the mission was executed "exactly as planned", with "no mistakes whatsoever", and had been "successfully completed".&nbsp;
He highlighted that the Army had carried out the operation in full accordance with the advance preparations. Commending the armed forces, he said they had done a "commendable job" and praised their "immaculate execution".&nbsp;
Addressing his ministers, he added, "The whole country was looking up to us. We are proud of our Army."
According to a national daily, members of the Cabinet responded with unanimous support, expressing full confidence in Prime Minister Modi&rsquo;s leadership. They welcomed the government&rsquo;s action by thumping the tables in approval, while affirming that the entire nation stood firmly with the Prime Minister and the military in the fight against terrorism.
The cross-border military operation commenced at 1.05 am on Wednesday and concluded within 25 minutes. Nine terror camps and training centres located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir were targeted.&nbsp;
The strikes utilised stand-off precision weaponry, including HAMMER bombs, SCALP missiles, and other munitions capable of hovering over their targets before detonation to ensure precision. According to government sources, the strikes were carefully synchronised to avoid detection and inflict maximum damage.
The government described the action as a "measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible" response to Pakistan&rsquo;s ongoing support for cross-border terrorism.
Following the strikes, Pakistan initiated what Indian officials termed "arbitrary and indiscriminate firing" and artillery shelling along the Line of Control, resulting in the deaths of at least three civilians in Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Poonch sector.
A detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor was co-led by Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a move widely seen as both strategic and symbolic. The name of the operation, "Sindoor", was selected as a tribute to the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam terror attack.&nbsp;
The decision to have women officers lead the briefing was noted as a significant gesture.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, speaking after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, provided specific details of the operation. "Terror targets were chosen based on credible intelligence and their involvement in cross-border terrorism. No military installation was targeted in Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor'," she stated.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh added that India had exercised restraint in its military response. "India has demonstrated considerable restraint in its response. However, the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared to respond to a Pakistani misadventure, if any, to escalate the situation," she said.
