Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored India&rsquo;s firm position against terrorism during his visit to Malaysia, stating that the global fight against the threat must be free of ambiguity and selective approaches.
After holding talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur, Modi reiterated that counterterror efforts cannot allow double standards or compromise. The two leaders announced multiple initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in defence, security, trade, and advanced technologies.
Both nations agreed to expand defence engagement and pursue closer collaboration in critical sectors. Discussions also highlighted partnerships in artificial intelligence, digital innovation, semiconductors, healthcare, and food security, signalling a broader push toward future-focused economic ties.
Outlining India&rsquo;s strategic outlook, Modi described the Indo-Pacific as a key driver of global growth and reaffirmed New Delhi&rsquo;s commitment to peace, stability, and development in the region alongside ASEAN partners.
Referring to bilateral ties as a &ldquo;special relationship,&rdquo; the prime minister pointed to longstanding historical links and strong people-to-people connections between the two maritime neighbours. He also highlighted the influence of the Indian-origin community in Malaysia, noting that shared cultural heritage and democratic values continue to reinforce the partnership.
Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur to a ceremonial reception, with Ibrahim personally welcoming him at the airport. He later received formal honours ahead of the official discussions.
Malaysia emphasised that cooperation with India is steadily widening across trade, investment, connectivity, and defence, while acknowledging India&rsquo;s rapidly expanding role in the global economy.
