A massive landslide struck Haridwar on Sunday after days of relentless rainfall in Uttarakhand, sending a huge portion of the Manasa Devi hill near Kali Mandir crashing down.
The collapse triggered a heavy flow of mud and boulders onto the Bhimgoda railway track, completely blocking the Dehradun&ndash;Haridwar rail corridor. The force of the debris was so intense that it damaged protective iron nets along the track, bringing train services to a halt and causing panic in the area.
While no casualties were reported, the landslide created widespread disruption. Railway officials and disaster response teams have begun clearing the debris and assessing the damage, but authorities warned that it could take hours or even days to restore full operations.
Residents remain on edge, as a similar landslide had occurred at the same spot just days earlier. Experts link such incidents to continuous monsoon rains that weaken mountain slopes, increasing the risk of sudden collapses.
With Haridwar being a major pilgrimage and tourist hub, the landslide has sparked concerns over safety for both locals and visitors.
