The Indian stock market opened on a cautious note Thursday as IT stocks dragged indices lower amid mixed global cues.
At 9:28 AM, the Sensex fell 110 points to 82,615, while the Nifty dropped 13 points to 25,206. The Nifty IT index underperformed, slipping 1.17%, while most other sectoral indices showed marginal gains or slight declines.
Midcap and smallcap indices also saw profit-booking. The Nifty Midcap 100 declined 0.39%, and the Smallcap 100 edged lower by 0.07%.
Among Nifty gainers, Dr. Reddy&rsquo;s Laboratories led with a 3.07% rise, followed by Tata Motors (1.51%). Other prominent gainers included Tata Consumer Products, JSW Steel, and Eicher Motors. Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bajaj Finance were top losers.
Market sentiment remains &ldquo;cautiously optimistic&rdquo; as per Hardik Matalia of Choice Equity Broking. He added that a move above 25,250 could lead to a rally toward 25,330, while support levels are seen at 25,125 and 25,000.
Despite flat domestic trade, global cues were largely positive. US indices closed higher overnight with the Dow up 1.14%, Nasdaq gaining 0.61%, and S&amp;P 500 rising 0.78%. Asian markets followed, led by Japan&rsquo;s Nikkei 225 (+1.97%) and Indonesia&rsquo;s Jakarta Composite (+1.70%).
FIIs continued selling for the fifth day, offloading ₹4,209 crore, while DIIs remained net buyers with ₹4,358 crore in purchases.
