A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed and three others were injured on Monday after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists went off in Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s Bijapur district.
The explosion occurred in Indravati National Park when a DRG team was conducting an anti-Naxal operation. Jawan Dinesh Nag lost his life in the blast, while three others sustained injuries. They were given preliminary medical aid and later evacuated from the forest.
This incident comes just days after another DRG officer, Sub-inspector Prakash Chatti, was injured in a similar IED blast in the Bhairamgarh police station area on August 14. He had accidentally triggered a pressure IED during a joint operation with the Special Task Force (STF). He is currently out of danger after treatment.
In a separate operation in the Tarrem area of Bijapur, security personnel recovered a 10 kg IED planted by Maoists. Meanwhile, in Gariaband district, security forces recovered a large cache of explosives and ₹16.5 lakh in cash following the surrender of four Maoists carrying a combined bounty of ₹19 lakh. The seizure included BGL rounds, a hand grenade, INSAS ammunition, gelatin sticks, detonators, and magazines.
The series of Maoist-related incidents underlines persistent threats in the region even as security forces intensify counter-insurgency operations.
