The three day anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Kulgam district ended on Tuesday with the elimination of two hardcore Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, even as the Army lost two of its brave soldiers in the fierce encounter.
The Chinar Corps confirmed that the slain terrorists were Rahman, a Pakistani national, and Amir Ahmed Dar from Shopian. &ldquo;The operation culminated with the neutralisation of two hardcore LeT terrorists along with the recovery of weapons, ammunition and other warlike stores. #ChinarCorps remains steadfast in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free,&rdquo; the Army said in a statement.
The joint operation had begun on Sunday in the Gudar forest area, following intelligence inputs about terrorist presence. As security forces zeroed in, the militants opened fire, triggering a prolonged gunfight.
Officials said one terrorist was killed in the initial exchange, but in the fierce battle that followed, three soldiers, including a JCO, were injured. While they were rushed to hospital, Subedar Prabhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu succumbed to critical injuries. Doctors said the condition of the injured JCO remains stable.
Paying tributes, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha said the sacrifice of the soldiers would never be forgotten, while former CM Omar Abdullah attended the wreath-laying ceremony to honour the martyrs.
Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified anti-terror operations, targeting armed militants, their overground workers and financial backers. Intelligence agencies have also flagged drug smuggling and hawala networks as key sources of terror funding, making them an immediate focus of ongoing crackdowns.
Officials said the Kulgam success underscores the Army&rsquo;s resolve that &ldquo;lasting peace in Kashmir is possible only by dismantling the entire terror ecosystem.&rdquo;
