The Kolkata Police has requested the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in West Bengal to cancel all passports obtained using fake documents, particularly forged birth certificates.
An ongoing investigation into a passport forgery racket in the Pathankhali area of South 24 Parganas district revealed a large-scale scam involving the creation of fake birth certificates. These certificates served as the foundation for securing fraudulent Indian passports, which were then allegedly used by some individuals to leave the country and settle abroad.
Police officials stated that many of these documents were generated by racketeers operating in villages near the India-Bangladesh border. These agents also helped infiltrators from Bangladesh acquire fake ration cards and other identity documents, beginning with forged birth certificates.
In response, the Kolkata Police also sent a communication to the state Health Department, requesting the immediate cancellation of all identified fake birth certificates. A senior health official confirmed that the cancellation process is already underway.
Investigators first detected the link between fake birth certificates and other forged identity documents earlier this year while probing multi-crore passport rackets active in West Bengal.
