Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir carried out an extensive overnight crackdown across Srinagar and other parts of the Valley, detaining around 200 individuals suspected to be over-ground workers (OGWs), former militants and stone pelters. The coordinated operation involved dozens of raids and comes amid heightened security vigilance following the recent exposure of a so-called &ldquo;white-collar terror module&rdquo;.
Officials described the detentions as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle terror support networks and their sympathisers. While authorities remained guarded about operational specifics, police acknowledged that the sweep was aimed at preventing regrouping of extremist elements, particularly those believed to have reactivated dormant networks. Several of those detained were said to have past involvement in militancy or street violence but had been living low-profile lives in recent years.
The intensified action has triggered concern among sections of Kashmiri society. Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said arrests linked to decades-old cases had created anxiety among families who believed they had moved away from past conflicts. He warned that continued detentions risk deepening uncertainty and distress, particularly among those already affected by prolonged incarceration of relatives.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the administration, he asserted, was committed to delivering justice to victims of militancy while ensuring lasting peace in the region.
