Strengthening one of the world&rsquo;s most consequential partnerships, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor in New Delhi on Saturday to discuss the growing strategic and global significance of India-US relations.
&ldquo;Pleased to meet Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor of the US today in New Delhi. Discussed the India-US relationship and its global significance. Wish him the best for his new responsibility,&rdquo; Jaishankar posted on X. Gor, who arrived in India earlier this week on a six-day visit from October 9&ndash;14, was accompanied by Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas. The visit marks his first official engagement since his Senate confirmation and precedes the formal presentation of his credentials.
During his trip, Gor also held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation under the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. &ldquo;They had a productive exchange on the India-US partnership and shared priorities,&rdquo; said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. This visit builds on Gor&rsquo;s earlier interaction with Jaishankar during the United Nations General Assembly session in New York last month, where both discussed expanding cooperation in defence, trade, and technology.
Highlighting the growing strategic depth of the partnership, Gor had told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, &ldquo;India is a strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond. Its economic growth and military capabilities make it a cornerstone of regional stability.&rdquo;
Gor&rsquo;s appointment underscores Washington&rsquo;s renewed push to bolster ties with New Delhi amid global realignments and trade tensions following the Trump administration&rsquo;s tariff policy.
