India marked a milestone in its space sector with the signing of its 100th Technology Transfer Agreement on Wednesday, under which Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will acquire the capability to independently produce Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs).
The agreement, facilitated by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), was formalised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), IN-SPACe, and HAL.
Over 24 months, ISRO will provide HAL with training and technical support, covering everything from commercial processes to full-scale technology integration. This collaboration includes the execution of two SSLV missions, helping HAL gain the expertise to handle the entire production cycle.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India&rsquo;s role in the global small-satellite launch market while fostering self-reliance and competitiveness in space manufacturing. It also represents a step towards wider participation in India&rsquo;s commercial space sector.
Officials emphasised that the partnership will expand the country&rsquo;s deep-tech collaboration in space and bolster its industrial ecosystem. With the transfer, HAL will cater to both domestic and international markets by leveraging its engineering and manufacturing strengths to create a cost-competitive ecosystem.
