The sell-off comes on the back of severe operational disruptions over the past week thousands of passengers stranded, cascading cancellations, and questions over the airline&rsquo;s preparedness for new crew duty norms.
Market sentiment weakened further after reports indicated that IndiGo&rsquo;s top executives may be summoned by the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture. The possibility of a legislative inquiry, combined with ongoing scrutiny from the aviation regulator, has added another layer of pressure on the country&rsquo;s largest carrier. The stock, which closed at ₹5,837 on December 1, traded around ₹4,970 by noon on Monday.
At the heart of the turbulence is IndiGo&rsquo;s failure to transition smoothly into the revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms rules notified in early 2024 and originally slated for mid-year implementation. Although the norms finally took effect on November 1, 2025, the airline appears to have underestimated the crew requirements and operational adjustments needed to comply, triggering widespread delays and cancellations.
Industry experts note that while all airlines must adhere to the new FDTL framework, IndiGo&rsquo;s massive network, high aircraft utilisation and extensive late-night operations have made it particularly vulnerable. As regulatory action looms and investor concerns deepen, the carrier now faces the twin challenge of restoring operational stability and rebuilding market trust.
