At the United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attempted to paint India as an aggressor, claiming &ldquo;victory&rdquo; over Indian forces and warning the world of so-called &ldquo;Hindutva-driven extremism.&rdquo; Hours later, India hit back with a sharp rebuttal, accusing Sharif of peddling lies and glorifying terrorism.
Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India&rsquo;s Permanent Mission to the UN, dismissed Sharif&rsquo;s claims as &ldquo;absurd theatrics.&rdquo; Responding to his boast of downing Indian jets, she said: &ldquo;If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, as the prime minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it.&rdquo;
Sharif alleged that India&rsquo;s Operation Sindoor targeted civilians in Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, adding that Pakistani forces shot down seven Indian jets. But India has already confirmed its own air force destroyed five Pakistani fighter jets and a surveillance aircraft during the operation.
Sharif also lashed out at New Delhi&rsquo;s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty after the April Pahalgam attack, calling it &ldquo;an act of war.&rdquo; He further accused India of &ldquo;Hindutva-driven extremism,&rdquo; claiming it endangered global peace, while reiterating support for Kashmir.
India&rsquo;s envoy reminded the world of Pakistan&rsquo;s record in sheltering terrorists: &ldquo;Let us recall that it sheltered Osama bin Laden for a decade, even while pretending to partner in the war against terrorism. Its ministers have just recently acknowledged that they have been operating terrorist camps for decades.&rdquo;
Gahlot further added that if Pakistan genuinely wanted dialogue, it must first dismantle terror camps and hand over wanted terrorists.
