Both officials extended their condolences for the victims of the Pahalgam massacre, which India attributes to TRF, an affiliate of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="806" data-end="1306"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The Indian delegation, which included intelligence representatives, presented evidence of TRF&rsquo;s involvement in the Pahalgam attack and its links to other terrorist activities. They also met with members of the Security Council&rsquo;s 1267 Committee, which is responsible for sanctioning individuals and groups associated with terrorism under UN Security Council resolutions. The committee operates under Resolution 1267, which mandates action against groups linked to Al-Qaida, ISIS, and their affiliates.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1308" data-end="1476"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">In addition to presenting their case to the sanctions committee, the Indian team met with diplomats from various UN member states to build support for blacklisting TRF.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1478" data-end="1926"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">UNOCT's summary of the meeting highlighted shared priorities between India and the UN, including enhancing cooperation through initiatives supported by India. These include strengthening cybersecurity, countering terrorist travel, supporting victims of terrorism, and tackling terror financing. Discussions also addressed threats from new and emerging technologies, such as drones and advanced financial tools being exploited by terrorist networks.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1928" data-end="2295"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">These collaborative efforts align with the 2022 Delhi Declaration, adopted during a session of the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee chaired by India. The declaration emphasized the urgency of addressing technological advancements being weaponized by terror groups and called for the development of global principles to counter these evolving threats.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="2297" data-end="2714"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Lashkar-e-Taiba was listed as a terrorist organisation by the UN in 2005. Since then, 27 aliases have been linked to it, including Jamaat-ud-Dawa and Pasban-e-Kashmir. Several individuals associated with the group, including founder Hafiz Saeed, have also been sanctioned, along with other organisations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. Sanctions include asset freezes and international travel bans.</span></p>
