As tensions rise in the Middle East following the Israel-Iran conflict, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has assured citizens that India&rsquo;s petrol and diesel supplies remain unaffected.
In an interview with IANS, Puri emphasized there&rsquo;s &ldquo;no cause for concern,&rdquo; stating, &ldquo;I want to make it absolutely clear that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the country. People do not need to worry.&rdquo;
Despite the region&rsquo;s volatility, global crude oil supplies are stable, and India has diversified its import sources &mdash; increasing crude oil suppliers from 27 to 40 countries.
Puri also highlighted growing domestic production, which, combined with robust stock levels, strengthens energy security.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint near Iran, handles over 20 million barrels of oil daily, raising fears of potential disruption. Yet, Puri maintained confidence in India&rsquo;s preparedness.
He further praised welfare initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which has extended LPG access to over 10.33 crore rural households since its 2016 launch.
On clean energy, Puri noted that biofuel blending has surged from 1.4% in 2014 to 20% today, showcasing India&rsquo;s strides in sustainability.
