Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met French Finance Minister Eric Lombard in Paris to review the ongoing negotiations for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The meeting focused on strengthening economic ties and enhancing trade and investment, particularly in areas like technology and innovation.
In a post on X, Goyal said, &ldquo;Held a productive meeting with Eric Lombard, French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. We exchanged views on deepening our economic partnership and reviewed the progress of the India-EU FTA negotiations.&rdquo;
He expressed optimism about building stronger economic relations between India and France.
Earlier in the day, Goyal met Christophe Perillat, CEO of global automotive giant Valeo Group, which has a significant presence in India. Discussions centered on scaling up Valeo&rsquo;s manufacturing footprint in the country, highlighting the company's growing confidence in India&rsquo;s economic growth.
The minister also met Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L'Or&eacute;al Group, to explore potential for the beauty and personal care company to expand its &lsquo;Make in India&rsquo; operations for global markets.
In addition to these meetings, Goyal held discussions with other top CEOs in Paris, focusing on emerging sectors such as electric vehicles and renewable energy, as part of his broader agenda to attract foreign investment into India.
Goyal is currently on an official visit to France and is scheduled to attend a ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Tuesday. He also noted that India is making progress on an FTA with Oman, which may be finalized soon.
After concluding his visit to France, the minister will travel to Italy for the next leg of his official tour.
