India sharply criticised Pakistan&rsquo;s political instability, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) questioning the state of democracy in the neighbouring country. During the weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal remarked that democracy and Pakistan &ldquo;do not go together&rdquo; while responding to concerns about weakening institutions and unrest linked to former prime minister Imran Khan.
Jaiswal said India continues to monitor Pakistan's developments closely but declined to elaborate further.
Addressing recent border violence between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the MEA expressed concern over civilian deaths. Jaiswal condemned attacks on Afghan civilians and reiterated India&rsquo;s support for Afghanistan&rsquo;s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
The clashes, confirmed by officials on both sides, left at least five people dead and escalated tensions after peace talks collapsed last week.
The comments come as Pakistan faces increasing internal turmoil. The Pakistan Army recently launched a direct attack on Imran Khan&rsquo;s credibility. Military spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry described the jailed former prime minister as mentally unwell and narcissistic, according to Associated Press. The remarks followed Khan&rsquo;s social media post criticising Army chief Gen. Asim Munir.
Khan, imprisoned since a 2023 corruption conviction, continues to face multiple cases. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), alleges restricted access to him in jail and has staged protests demanding transparency about his health.
Last week, officials at Rawalpindi&rsquo;s Adiala Jail allowed Khan&rsquo;s sister, Uzma Khanum, a supervised visit, while &nbsp;Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters demonstrated outside the high court and prison, demanding regular visitation rights.
