The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday said that ensuring the safety of Indian diplomatic establishments abroad is the responsibility of the host government, after a threat was issued to the Indian consulate in Vancouver.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made the remarks when asked about a threat from Sikhs for Justice, a banned Khalistani outfit, which had called for a &ldquo;siege&rdquo; of the mission earlier this week.
Jaiswal underlined that India raises such concerns directly with the host country, in this case Canada, and expects adequate security arrangements at its diplomatic premises.
The statement comes at a time when India-Canada ties remain strained over pro-Khalistani activities on Canadian soil, which New Delhi has repeatedly flagged as a security concern.
