Trump has repeatedly asserted that he halted India-Pak clashes through mediation and trade incentives. Modi, however, told Parliament in July that &ldquo;no leader in the world asked India to stop military action,&rdquo; stressing that the ceasefire was reached bilaterally after Pakistan&rsquo;s military approached India. He recalled ignoring a call from US Vice President JD Vance on May 9, stating later that &ldquo;if this is Pakistan&rsquo;s intention, it will pay a heavy price.&rdquo;
Bremmer argued that Modi&rsquo;s move not only strengthened his domestic standing but also showed India&rsquo;s confidence on the world stage. He contrasted Modi with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who engaged Trump cautiously.
New Delhi has consistently rejected US involvement, reiterating that talks with Pakistan remain a bilateral matter. Analysts see Modi&rsquo;s public rebuttal as reinforcing India&rsquo;s independent stance while challenging Trump&rsquo;s narrative of global deal-making.
