A Jaguar fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Tuesday morning in Bhanuda village near Rajasthan&rsquo;s Churu district, resulting in the death of the pilot.
According to residents, a loud explosion was heard in the sky moments before flames and thick smoke were seen rising from nearby fields. The sudden crash triggered panic in the nearby town of Ratangarh.
Police teams and district administration, led by Collector Abhishek Surana, immediately rushed to the scene. The body of the pilot was recovered near the wreckage, severely burned and beyond recognition. The Indian Army, in coordination with local officials, is working to identify the remains.
Villagers said the crash caused a fire in agricultural fields, which they initially tried to douse themselves before help arrived.
The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed. A technical inquiry by the Indian Air Force is expected to follow.
The incident has once again raised concerns over aircraft safety and pilot training in difficult terrain and weather conditions.
