Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi has shed light on why the Pakistan Navy remained largely inactive during Operation Sindoor, stating that decisive naval positioning by India effectively restricted Pakistan&rsquo;s maritime movement.
The Navy chief said India&rsquo;s firm and assertive posture at sea, including the swift deployment of an aircraft carrier battle group, compelled Pakistan&rsquo;s naval forces to stay close to their ports or operate in limited areas near the Makran coast. This strategy, he said, ensured complete maritime control during the confrontation in May.
Admiral Tripathi also clarified that Operation Sindoor has not formally concluded and continues as an ongoing mission. He underlined that the objectives of the operation remain active, reflecting India&rsquo;s sustained preparedness and vigilance.
Beyond military impact, the Navy chief pointed to significant economic pressure on Pakistan as a result of the operation. He said several merchant vessels avoided Pakistani ports following the conflict, leading to increased insurance premiums for ships operating in the region and adding financial strain.
Operation Sindoor was launched on the night of May 7 as a targeted response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Indian security forces struck terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan, eliminating over 100 terrorists. The operation triggered a brief but intense phase of hostilities, during which India targeted key military assets after escalation from the neighbouring country.
The conflict subsided on May 10 following a ceasefire understanding, though India maintains that operational readiness continues.
Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a strong example of coordination between the civil administration and the Armed Forces. Addressing civil servants at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie, he said such cooperation helped ensure public confidence and operational success.
Singh noted that while India&rsquo;s actions were measured and non-escalatory, continued provocations from Pakistan prevented a swift return to normalcy along the borders. He also praised administrative officers for effectively managing information flow and conducting nationwide preparedness drills during the operation.
