The family of Vijay Sheoran, a Haryana resident pursuing higher education in the United Kingdom, has appealed to the Indian government for urgent assistance after he was found with life-threatening injuries in Worcestershire and later died.
Vijay&rsquo;s elder brother, Ravi Sheoran, said the family was informed by West Mercia Police that Vijay was discovered injured on November 25 at around 04.15 GMT. 
&ldquo;We got information from West Mercia Police (UK) that Vijay was found with life-threatening injuries in Worcestershire on November 25 at about 04.15GMT.&nbsp;The police had arrested five persons and now they are on bail. We don&rsquo;t know why my brother was killed and we have no information about the attackers,&rdquo; he said.
Five men aged 22 to 35 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. 
Det Insp Corry Horobin of Worcester CID said, &ldquo;We have arrested five people as part of our initial enquiries and are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident.&rdquo;
Vijay, who had taken voluntary retirement from the Central Board of Excise and Customs, had travelled to the UK on February 18 to pursue further studies. 
He was enrolled at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol.
Ravi said the family has written to the external affairs minister seeking intervention from the Indian High Commission in London for the repatriation of Vijay&rsquo;s body. 
&ldquo;Our family is shattered by this incident. We request the MEA to help us in getting my brother&rsquo;s body back for the last rites. Due to the complex legal formalities and documentation in the UK, it is difficult for us to manage on our own,&rdquo; he wrote.
He added that Vijay had last served in Kochi before resigning to study abroad. 
Appeals for support have also been made to Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini.
BJP MLA Sunil Sangwan urged the Centre to expedite the process of returning Vijay&rsquo;s mortal remains and ensure a fair investigation into the killing.
London-based lawyer Sukhvinder Nara, former senior deputy advocate general in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said a crowdfunding initiative by Non-Resident Indians is underway to facilitate the quick repatriation of the body. 
&ldquo;I urge the Indian students coming to the UK to remain vigilant even when meeting Indian students,&rdquo; he said.
Preliminary information suggests the attackers may have been students from Haryana and Punjab, and that the incident followed a verbal altercation. 
Police have not disclosed their identities.
