Marking the start of Navratri, the Gujarat government announced the Gujarat Karmayogi Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (G-Category), a new health scheme for state officers, employees, and pensioners. The launch also coincided with the seventh anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya &ndash; Ayushman Yojana.
Under the plan, around 6.42 lakh beneficiaries will be eligible for cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh, supported by an annual state outlay of ₹303.5 crore. Health Minister Rushikesh Patel unveiled the scheme but did not specify when it will be implemented.
Government data shows that between 2018 and 2025, more than 2.92 lakh Ayushman cards were issued in Gujarat, enabling 51.27 lakh claims worth ₹13,946.53 crore. Currently, 2,708 hospitals are empanelled under the programme, including 943 private and 1,765 government facilities, covering 2,471 procedures.
Officials also recalled the state&rsquo;s earlier health insurance initiatives. The Maa Yojana, launched in 2012 with a budget of ₹30 crore, later expanded into the Maa-Vatsalya Yojana in 2014. From 2012 to 2018, claims worth ₹1,179.19 crore were settled under it.
According to the government, the new scheme aims to provide financial security and healthcare protection to families of Gujarat&rsquo;s government staff and pensioners.
