The Ludhiana Police have unearthed a suspected cross-border conspiracy after arresting a man carrying a live grenade allegedly meant to trigger an explosion in the city. Investigators have identified Malaysia-based Ajay, infamously known as &ldquo;Ajay Malaysia,&rdquo; as the key conspirator behind the foiled plot.
According to police, Ajay originally from Rajasthan, allegedly coordinated the operation from abroad through a nexus of drug traffickers and criminal operatives in Punjab. Acting on his directions, the grenade was reportedly supplied to two jail inmates in Muktsar, Ramneek Singh alias Amreek and Parwinder Singh alias Chidi, who arranged for local carriers to execute the task. Their recruits, Kuldeep Singh of Muktsar and his aide Shekhar Singh, were assigned to transport the Chinese-made hand grenade from Amritsar to Ludhiana. However, the plan collapsed late Sunday night when a police team intercepted them near Shivpuri Chowk during a routine check. While Shekhar managed to escape, Kuldeep was caught with the grenade.
&ldquo;Ajay Malaysia appears to be the mastermind, coordinating the operation from abroad with assistance from criminal networks in Punjab,&rdquo; a senior police official said. Preliminary investigation has revealed possible links between the accused and drug smuggling networks, hinting at a wider criminal-terror nexus. Kuldeep later confessed to police that he and his associate were promised ₹50,000 each for transporting the explosive. Following his interrogation, police secured production warrants for the jailed duo, who have since been formally arrested.
The Ludhiana Police have registered a case under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Central agencies are now assisting the local police in tracing Ajay Malaysia&rsquo;s communication trail and mapping his network across Punjab and Rajasthan.
