Romeo Lane Vagator, a beachside shack and party venue owned by brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, is set to be demolished today as part of a sweeping crackdown by the Goa government on illegal and unsafe establishments. Officials say the structure in Vagator had &ldquo;clear construction irregularities&rdquo; and lacked the permissions required to operate. It had already been sealed by revenue authorities earlier this week.
This demolition is the second major blow to the Luthra brothers within days. Their upscale nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, was at the center of a devastating fire that killed 25 people, including staff and tourists. The tragedy triggered widespread shock and prompted the state to open a full-scale investigation into all properties linked to the group.
Following the fire, authorities discovered multiple violations across the chain. Several of the Luthra establishments were found operating without essential safety clearances, fire compliance certificates or construction permissions. The Vagator property in particular has been flagged for being built illegally on government land and for operating without basic safety infrastructure, making it a high-risk venue in a popular coastal belt.
The Goa government has sealed two more Luthra-linked properties, including one in Assagao, and has begun examining whether any officials overlooked violations or facilitated permits. Meanwhile, look-out notices have been issued for the Luthra brothers as investigations continue. Interpol has also issued a blue-corner notice to trace their movements as police piece together the chain of events leading to the Arpora disaster.
Officials say today&rsquo;s demolition is part of a broader effort to ensure no other venue under the group poses a risk to the public. The fire, described by investigators as preventable, has sparked a wider debate about safety compliance in Goa&rsquo;s nightlife industry, where illegal expansions and lax inspections have long been concerns.
As the rubble clears in Vagator, questions remain about how many other venues in the state may be operating without oversight, and whether this tragedy will finally force a long-needed tightening of regulations.
