The investigation into the Red Fort blast in Delhi, which killed twelve people and injured several others, has uncovered new details about the prime suspect, Dr Mohammad Umar un-Nabi. Officials have now learned that he stayed in Haryana&rsquo;s Nuh district until a day before the explosion and used multiple mobile phones during the period leading up to the incident.
According to investigators, Umar left Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad after his close associate, Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, was detained. CCTV footage from earlier days shows Umar visiting a pollution-check centre with the Hyundai i20 car later involved in the blast and repairing a mobile phone at a local shop.
Records indicate that Umar fled to Nuh on October 30 with assistance from a nursing staffer at Al-Falah University. He rented a room in a house owned by the staffer&rsquo;s sister-in-law, paying ₹6,000 that included a security deposit and rent. Family members at the residence told investigators that Umar rarely stepped out during the day and only left the room late at night to eat. They described him as withdrawn and noted that he stayed in the same clothes for eleven days.
Umar reportedly left the rented room abruptly on November 9. After news of the Delhi blast broke, police questioned members of the household who helped him.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police said that CCTV footage captured Umar carrying at least two mobile phones nearly two weeks before the explosion. However, forensic checks of the blast site did not recover any phone, suggesting he may have discarded them before the attack.
In a separate update, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation reopened two entry gates at the Lal Quila Metro station after security restrictions were eased. The station had been partially closed following the blast.
Officials are also examining a connection between the Red Fort explosion and an accidental blast at Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir. The Nowgam incident occurred while officers were handling explosive material seized from the Faridabad residence of the arrested suspect, Dr Muzammil Ganaie. Authorities confirmed that 360 kg of explosives recovered from the site were being examined as part of a wider probe into a suspected terror module.
