Four people lost their lives and 10 others were seriously injured when a pickup van carrying about 25 passengers overturned in Bihar&rsquo;s Saran district on Monday morning.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. near Bajitpur village under Nayagaon police station limits after one of the van's tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control at high speed (70&ndash;80 km/h).
The group was reportedly travelling from Dighwara to Sarai in Vaishali district via Sonpur to roast corn when the incident took place.
According to the Sonpur Range SDPO, emergency teams launched rescue efforts immediately. Bodies were pulled from the wreckage and sent to Sadar Hospital, Chhapra, for post-mortem. The injured were admitted to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Sonpur, some of them in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Anju Devi (48), Radhika Devi (50), Sonu Kumar (23), and Rajlakshmi Kumari (15), all from Dighwara.
Locals aided in relief work, while the police seized the van and announced an FIR would be lodged against the driver for rash and negligent driving.
Officials also cited concerns over vehicle overloading, poor maintenance, and violation of safety norms. A transport department probe into the van's fitness has been recommended.
