A tragic highway accident in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, claimed the lives of five young friends early Sunday morning. The fatal collision occurred on the Gwalior-Jhansi Highway near Malwa College, where a speeding Toyota Fortuner crashed into a sand-loaded tractor-trolley. The impact was so devastating that none of the occupants survived, and the mangled remains of the vehicle highlighted the violence of the crash.
According to the police, the SUV was traveling from Jhansi towards Gwalior when the tractor-trolley suddenly entered the highway from a side turn. &ldquo;The collision was so severe that half of the Fortuner was crushed under the trolley, trapping and killing all five occupants instantly,&rdquo; said DSP Nagendra Singh Sikarwar. He added, &ldquo;A vehicle like the Fortuner cannot be easily crashed to an unrecognisable degree; it indicates it was being driven at more than 120 km per hour. Even the airbags could not help.&rdquo;
The victims identified as Kshitij alias Prince Rajawat, Kaushal Bhadoria, Aditya Pratap Singh Jadon, Abhimanyu Singh, and one unidentified were all under 25. Preliminary investigation suggests they were returning from a birthday celebration in Jhansi. Local villagers and emergency responders worked for hours with cutting tools to free the bodies from the wreckage. Authorities have seized the tractor and detained its driver for questioning, as a detailed probe has been launched to determine possible negligence or road safety lapses.
The tragedy has left families and the local community in deep shock, especially since some victims were the only sons in their families. The case underscored ongoing concerns about overspeeding and highway safety, with police urging stricter adherence to speed limits. An investigation is underway, and post-mortems have been completed as part of the legal procedure.
