Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday ordered a formal probe into alleged irregularities surrounding a high-value Pune land transaction linked to Parth Pawar, son of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. The state government suspended a sub-registrar and set up a three-member committee after questions arose over how ₹21 crore in stamp duty was waived for a 40-acre land sale near Koregaon Park.
&ldquo;I have sought all the information. A probe has also been ordered, will bring out the truth in this matter,&rdquo; Fadnavis said, signalling that the state intends to scrutinise every procedural step in the May transaction involving Amedea Enterprises LLP, a firm where Parth Pawar is listed as a partner.
Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankuke confirmed that the committee would assess whether the exemption was granted under the correct legal provisions. &ldquo;There is a specific law about Mahar Watan land and an exemption in stamp duty for specific purposes,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I have ordered the probe committee to see if provisions of law related to the Mahar Watan land have been followed.&rdquo;
The land, valued at ₹300 crore and located next to one of Pune&rsquo;s most expensive neighbourhoods, was purchased by Amedea Enterprises. Documents reviewed indicate that the company&rsquo;s address and Parth Pawar&rsquo;s Pune residence in Yawant Nagar are the same. The registration documents were signed by Digvijay Amarsinh Patil, the other partner in the firm. Parth Pawar did not respond to requests for comment.
Ravindra Binwade, inspector general of registration and controller of stamps, said the committee will submit its report within 10 days. &ldquo;The committee will probe the circumstances under which the stamp duty was waived and what documents were submitted,&rdquo; he noted, adding that the joint inspector general of registration will lead the inquiry.
