The Election Commission of India has dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s allegations that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was shielding those involved in voter deletion scams, calling them &ldquo;incorrect and baseless.&rdquo;
The poll body clarified that no voter can be removed from electoral rolls without due process and that deletion attempts flagged in Karnataka&rsquo;s Aland constituency in 2023 were unsuccessful. The EC filed an FIR to ensure proper investigation.
Elections in Aland reflected fair outcomes, with BJP&rsquo;s Subhadh Guttedar winning in 2018 and Congress's BR Patil in 2023.
Earlier, Gandhi had accused the CEC of protecting &ldquo;vote chors&rdquo; and alleged systematic voter deletions in Karnataka and Maharashtra. He claimed the Karnataka CID had repeatedly sought technical details from the EC, which were not provided, and promised to soon reveal explosive evidence.
