A horrific road accident in Indore left at least three people dead and several others critically injured on Monday evening, after a truck driven by a drunk man lost control and ploughed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles. The incident occurred in Shikshak Nagar on Airport Road, causing chaos and panic as bodies lay mangled on the road.
According to officials, the truck first hit two bikers at the Ramchandra Nagar intersection before dragging their vehicles along and speeding recklessly towards the Bada Ganpati area. The driver continued crashing into vehicles and pedestrians in Kalani Nagar, leaving a trail of destruction.
Police confirmed that the driver, who was heavily intoxicated, has been arrested and taken to Malharganj police station for medical examination. The truck, registered as MP09 ZP 4069, has been seized for further investigation.
Amid the carnage, the truck caught fire when a motorcycle became trapped underneath, causing sparks that ignited its fuel tank. Initial confusion led to speculation that angry locals had torched the vehicle, but eyewitnesses clarified that the blaze was accidental. Firefighters rushed to the spot to douse the flames as rescue teams evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals.
Two bodies were shifted to the district hospital while MY Hospital kept emergency wards ready for incoming casualties. Officials fear the death toll may rise as many victims remain in critical condition.
The tragic accident has reignited concerns about drunk driving and lax enforcement in busy city areas, where innocent lives often fall victim to reckless behaviour.
