Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir detected multiple suspected drones along the International Border and the Line of Control on Sunday evening, triggering heightened security and search operations in several districts.
According to official sources, the aerial objects were observed in areas of Samba, Rajouri and Poonch. The drones were seen entering Indian airspace from across the Pakistan border, hovering briefly and then returning after a few minutes. Following the sightings, ground teams were deployed to comb the affected regions.
In the Rajouri district, Army units in the Nowshera sector opened fire with machine guns after a suspected drone was seen flying over the Gania-Kalsian area around 6:35 pm. Around the same time, another drone-like object with a blinking light was spotted over Khabbar village in the Teryath area. It reportedly moved from the direction of Dharmsal in Kalakote towards Bharakh before disappearing.
In the Samba district, a similar flying object was observed hovering over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector around 7:15 pm. The object remained in the area for several minutes, raising concerns of possible reconnaissance or payload drops.
Poonch district also witnessed suspicious aerial movement. A drone-like object was seen travelling from the Tain area towards Topa in the Mankote sector along the Line of Control at around 6:25 pm.
These sightings come just days after security forces recovered a weapons consignment in Paloora village of Ghagwal in Samba district. The cache, believed to have been delivered by a drone from Pakistan, included pistols, magazines, ammunition and a grenade. The incident has further strengthened suspicions of cross-border drone activity being used to supply arms to militants.
Security agencies remain on high alert as searches continue to trace any dropped material and to prevent potential threats along the sensitive border zones.
