A street dog was left badly injured after it wandered into a heated argument between customers at a grocery shop in Sector 38, only to become the target of violence itself.
The incident unfolded when a disagreement between two customers over the unavailability of a grocery item escalated into a physical fight inside the shop. As the scuffle spilled out into the corridor, a street dog that regularly rests outside the store began barking, seemingly reacting to the chaos.
Instead of backing away, one of the men involved in the altercation, along with two associates, turned on the animal. Armed with a rod, they struck the dog near its eye, leaving it severely injured and bleeding.
The injured dog was later spotted by an animal welfare activist who was alerted by a passerby. The dog was immediately taken to a private veterinary hospital, where doctors performed emergency treatment, giving it 13 stitches and successfully saving its left eye.
Although no formal complaint was filed by the shopkeeper or others present, police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and took preventive action by detaining the three men involved. They were later released on bail.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and animal lovers, highlighting the vulnerability of street animals and the need for stronger awareness and accountability when violence spills into public spaces.
