As the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) enters its final phase of the eligibility survey, there's a marked rise in engagement from residents who had earlier stayed away or missed the door-to-door verification process. According to project officials, this surge reflects growing awareness and urgency among locals to secure their place in one of the world&rsquo;s largest urban renewal programs.
Over the past month, the project's toll-free helpline has recorded nearly 700 calls, with 41% of them related to requests for survey participation. These calls came from households anxious about missing out on housing entitlements linked to the project.
&ldquo;This overwhelming response reflects how invested the community now is,&rdquo; said a DRP official. &ldquo;Roughly 300 of those calls in the last 30 days were from residents wanting to complete the door-to-door eligibility survey, which is crucial to determine their inclusion.&rdquo;
Other inquiries included document requirements for verification, expected timelines for home allotments, and details about new units such as their location, size, and floor numbering. Several residents also called to clarify doubts raised by recent campaigns that encouraged unregistered families to step forward.
Initially, some areas like&nbsp;Kumbharwada, Compound 13, and parts of private land holdings opted out of the process. However, even in these zones, sentiments are shifting. &ldquo;In just the past two days, many from Kumbharwada have voluntarily begun numbering their tenements,&rdquo; an official noted.
Officials attribute the increased engagement to the transparent approach and sustained public outreach adopted by the project team. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re encouraged by the quality of participation and the trust residents are placing in us. It shows they are ready for change, and they want to be part of it,&rdquo; the official added.
The toll-free helpline has become a vital link between the DRP authorities and Dharavi&rsquo;s residents facilitating two-way communication, clarifying doubts, and documenting concerns.
&ldquo;We are committed to a transparent and inclusive redevelopment process,&rdquo; the DRP official reiterated. &ldquo;This project isn't just about new housing it's about building a better future, together.&rdquo;
