India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has issued a series of notices to Air India over the past year for repeated violations of safety protocols, particularly concerning pilot fatigue management and inadequate simulator training.
The notices were triggered by the airline&rsquo;s own voluntary disclosures, in which it admitted to shortcomings in areas like crew rest scheduling and training compliance. Despite previous enforcement actions and warnings, the DGCA stated that systemic issues in crew planning, compliance monitoring, and governance remain unresolved.
Air India has acknowledged the receipt of these notices and said it will respond within the stipulated timeframe. &ldquo;We remain fully committed to the safety of our crew and passengers,&rdquo; a spokesperson from the airline said.
The regulator's recent concerns come on the heels of a tragic Air India Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad last month, where 260 people lost their lives. Preliminary findings from the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau revealed that both engines on the aircraft failed just seconds after take-off due to fuel supply issues.
In response, the DGCA had directed all airlines to inspect the locking mechanisms on the fuel control switches of Boeing aircraft. Air India confirmed that it completed these precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 and 737 fleets without detecting any irregularities.
