Ahead of New Year&rsquo;s Eve celebrations, Delhi Police launched a large-scale preventive crackdown across the city, stepping up checks to curb crime and ensure public safety during the festive period. The operation targeted illicit liquor, drugs, gambling networks and habitual offenders as part of heightened year-end security measures.
The drive resulted in the arrest of 285 people under laws related to excise violations, narcotics and gambling. In addition, over 500 individuals were detained under preventive provisions, while 116 known repeat offenders were taken into custody as authorities intensified surveillance on high-risk elements.
Significant recoveries were made during the operation, including 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges and 27 knives. Police also seized more than 12,000 quarters of illicit liquor, over six kilograms of cannabis, nearly ₹2.31 lakh in cash, hundreds of mobile phones and several two-wheelers, along with one four-wheeler.
Operation Aaghat 3.0 builds on earlier editions conducted in recent months, which focused on dismantling organised crime networks, bootlegging and drug trafficking. With celebrations approaching, the intensified enforcement underscores the police strategy of combining preventive detention with targeted action to maintain law and order in the capital.
