Gujarat Gas Company has increased the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by ₹1.26 per kilogram. The revised rate came into effect on August 1, pushing the cost of CNG to ₹80.26 per kg.
This price hike is expected to impact a large number of commuters in Surat. More than 1.5 lakh CNG-powered vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and school vans, operate in the city. Families and daily passengers relying on these services are likely to face additional financial pressure.
The latest hike follows a series of previous increases over the past year. In July 2024, the CNG price was ₹74.26 per kg. In early 2025, the rate was raised from ₹77.76 to ₹79.26, a jump of ₹1.50 per kg. With the new revision, the total increase in CNG prices over the past 12 months has reached ₹6 per kg.
Gujarat Gas last revised its rates in December 2024. The current increase continues a trend of rising fuel costs for CNG vehicle owners.
A source familiar with the matter noted that the ₹1.26 per kg hike would add further pressure on household budgets and transport operators who depend on CNG for their daily activities.
