In a dramatic escalation following India&rsquo;s Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to strike the Uri Hydroelectric Project shortly after midnight on May 6&ndash;7, but the attack was thwarted by a swift and highly coordinated response from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Positioned just a few kilometres from the Line of Control, the strategic power installations came under intense shelling as Pakistan retaliated to India&rsquo;s cross-LoC anti-terror action.&nbsp;
CISF said its units, led by Commandant Ravi Yadav and the Deputy Commandant on duty, immediately initiated protective measures despite &ldquo;heavy and indiscriminate gunfire&rdquo; from across the border. Troops neutralised hostile drones targeting the installations and secured armoury stockpiles by redistributing weapons to prevent destruction. &ldquo;Throughout the crisis, the integrity of critical national assets remained intact due to vigilance and preparedness,&rdquo; the force said.
The shelling endangered not just the hydropower facilities but also the surrounding civilian township. As incoming fire intensified, CISF personnel undertook door-to-door evacuation of NHPC staff, families, women and children often amid ongoing shell bursts. The force said that decisive ground action ensured no damage to the two Uri power projects even as Pakistan attempted to overwhelm the area with drones and artillery.&nbsp;
Recognising their extraordinary response, the CISF on Tuesday honoured 19 personnel with the Director General&rsquo;s Disc at its New Delhi headquarters. Officials noted that their actions prevented a potentially catastrophic strike on a vital energy asset and kept hundreds of civilians safe during one of the most volatile nights in the region since the operation.
