The Lok Sabha was adjourned today after a heated controversy erupted in Parliament with Opposition MPs accusing the government of deleting parts of their dissent notes from a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf Amendment Bill. The Opposition claimed that their objections had been removed but the government swiftly rejected these allegations, asserting that the committee&rsquo;s chairman had the discretion to remove sections that disparaged the committee's work.
The stand-off was resolved after a meeting between Opposition MPs, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. It was decided that the dissent notes from Opposition members would be included in the JPC&rsquo;s final report in their original form.
Speaking on the matter in Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the removal of dissent notes, stating, &ldquo;Many members have given their dissent note. Removing them from proceedings and keeping only the majority view is condemnable and anti-democracy.&rdquo;
In response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju denied any deletions, calling the Opposition's charges baseless. "Don't mislead the House. Opposition parties are making an unnecessary issue. The allegation is false, and the JPC followed all procedures without violating any rules," he said.
