The CBI is preparing to request blue notices from Interpol against Delhi-based businessmen Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who allegedly fled to Phuket just hours after a nightclub fire in North Goa killed 25 people. According to officials, the agency is urgently coordinating with Interpol&rsquo;s Lyon headquarters to prevent the brothers from escaping to another country.
Over the past few years, CBI&rsquo;s Global Operations Centre has tracked more than 200 fugitives abroad, facilitating the return of 136 through extradition or deportation. The same mechanism is now being used in the Luthra case.
A blue notice is one of Interpol&rsquo;s seven colour-coded alerts. It enables member nations to share information on a person&rsquo;s identity, activities or location during a criminal investigation. While it is not an arrest request, it allows countries to track suspects internationally. In comparison, a red notice seeks arrest for prosecution or sentencing, and a yellow notice helps locate missing individuals or those unable to identify themselves.
India&rsquo;s strong extradition treaty with Thailand, active since 2015, boosts confidence among investigators that the Luthra brothers will be brought back soon. Officials are currently securing an arrest warrant from a Goa court and plan to pass it to Thai authorities through the Ministry of External Affairs.
The brothers reportedly boarded an early-morning IndiGo flight to Phuket, nearly six hours after the deadly blaze at Birch by Romeo Lane. By the time police teams reached their Delhi residence, they had already left the country. The fire, which broke out around 11.45 pm, destroyed the 300-sq-metre property and claimed 25 lives, 20 of them staff members and five tourists.
The FIR names the brothers and others under charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, endangering lives and negligent handling of combustible materials under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
