The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully coordinated the return of fugitive Parminder Singh, also known as Nirmal Singh or Pindi, from the United Arab Emirates through Interpol channels. Parminder Singh was wanted by the Punjab Police in connection with multiple serious charges, including extortion, raising funds for terrorist activities under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), attempt to murder, and criminal intimidation. After fleeing India, he had been absconding for several years.
On June 13, 2025, the CBI, on the request of Punjab Police, got a Red Notice issued against Singh through Interpol. Acting on this alert, UAE authorities arrested him, and a decision was taken to extradite him to India. On September 26, 2025, Singh was escorted back to India by a team of Punjab Police from the UAE.
The International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI coordinated closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Punjab Police, and the National Central Bureau in Abu Dhabi to ensure Singh&rsquo;s return. As India&rsquo;s National Central Bureau for Interpol, the CBI works with domestic law enforcement agencies through its BHARATPOL platform to track and bring back fugitives. Over the past few years, more than 130 wanted criminals have been successfully repatriated to India using these Interpol coordination channels.
The successful return of Parminder Singh is seen as yet another example of India&rsquo;s strengthened international cooperation in tackling crime and terrorism.
