A tragic road accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district claimed the lives of three passengers and left two others critically injured early Saturday.
The incident occurred near Nagla Khangar when a private double-decker bus traveling from Delhi to Orai (Jalaun district) collided with a marble-laden truck from behind. The crash caused severe damage to the front and left side of the bus, trapping several passengers inside.
Rural Superintendent of Police Trigun Bisen confirmed the fatalities, adding that two injured individuals were rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGI) in Saifai, Etawah, where they are receiving treatment.
One of the deceased has been identified as a resident of Orai, while efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the remaining victims. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
Initial investigation suggests that the bus driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the collision with the slow-moving truck.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos following the crash, with screams echoing from the damaged vehicle. Emergency response teams, including UPDA patrol, Dial 112, local police, and road safety units, quickly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue and relief operations. The injured were promptly evacuated by ambulance.
Authorities moved the wrecked bus to the roadside near KM 76 to clear the way for traffic, as the crash occurred around KM 68 on the expressway&rsquo;s left lane.
Passengers who were not injured were transferred to other buses to resume their journey. Police have urged drivers, especially those on long-haul routes, to stay vigilant and avoid fatigue-related accidents.
