Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has said that Bharat must rise and establish itself as a nation rooted in Dharma, calling it the country&rsquo;s responsibility to share this philosophy with the world.
Speaking at a lecture series marking the centenary of the RSS in Bengaluru, Bhagwat emphasised that every nation defines its own swadharma &mdash; its unique path and purpose &mdash; to achieve prosperity and contribute to humanity&rsquo;s progress.
&ldquo;The first step towards creating a Hindu society is spreading awareness. This process is still incomplete. As the RSS enters its centenary year, our goal is to reach every village and every section of society,&rdquo; Bhagwat said.
He noted that the RSS envisions the Hindu society as a unified whole and seeks to strengthen harmony among India&rsquo;s 142 crore citizens, encompassing diverse beliefs and communities. Bhagwat also revealed that dialogues have begun with groups who identify as Hindavi or Indic rather than Hindu, stressing that all such terms reflect the same essence.
Explaining the broader meaning of Hindu, he said, &ldquo;It is not a form or a label but a spirit &mdash; a way of living guided by ideals and discipline.&rdquo; Bhagwat added that while ideals are necessary, the nation needs living examples to inspire and unite people.
He called for collective national thinking and long-term planning to build the &ldquo;Bharat of our dreams,&rdquo; free from colonial mindsets and societal divisions. &ldquo;We must work together with goodwill, harmony, and positivity. Too much negativity surrounds us,&rdquo; he remarked.
Touching upon India&rsquo;s historical journey, Bhagwat said the country had seen unity among communities before colonial rule deepened social divisions. &ldquo;Muslims who stayed back after invasions became part of Bharat. Assimilation was our way. But during Aurangzeb&rsquo;s time, this harmony faced setbacks. The 1857 revolt again saw Hindus and Muslims fighting together,&rdquo; he noted.
He emphasised the need to revive that sense of oneness, saying, &ldquo;We are one people &mdash; let us start afresh.&rdquo;
Discussing the idea of Dharma, Bhagwat said it should not be equated with religion, as Dharma is about balance, duty, and sustaining life in harmony. &ldquo;It is the middle path that avoids extremes. Dharma means discipline &mdash; living life without disturbing others, while looking within,&rdquo; he explained.
He warned that the world&rsquo;s growing conflicts and imbalance stem from a loss of this understanding. &ldquo;Despite scientific progress, humanity remains restless. Wars continue, even under global institutions meant to preserve peace,&rdquo; he said.
Bhagwat asserted that Bharat&rsquo;s mission is to reintroduce the way of Dharma to the world &mdash; not through preaching, but through action and example. &ldquo;Our ancestors shared knowledge, not conquest. The time has come again to show the world the path of balance and coexistence,&rdquo; he concluded.
