A 12-year-old boy died in a tragic accident in West Bengaluru after an illegally constructed pavement slope caused him to fall under the wheels of a truck. The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Sannakkibayalu in Summanahalli, Kamakshipalya.
The victim, identified as R Shashank, was a Class 8 student at a BBMP school. His father works as a carpenter, and his mother is a homemaker. He is survived by his younger sister, who is also a student.
Police said Shashank had gone to invite a friend to play and was cycling back home when his bicycle's front wheel struck a cement slope illegally built in front of a house. The impact caused him to lose balance and fall onto the road, where a truck carrying M-sand ran over him, killing him instantly.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled after the accident. The incident has sparked concerns about illegal pavement modifications and their risks to pedestrians and cyclists in the city.
