Two terrorists were gunned down by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Kupwara district on Monday evening after troops detected suspicious movement near the Line of Control. The encounter took place in the Machhal sector, where forces had launched a joint operation based on intelligence inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to an Army statement, &ldquo;Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. A large quantity of weapons and equipment has been recovered.&rdquo; The search operation remains ongoing across the region to ensure no further infiltration attempts.
The encounter comes amid a heightened state of alert along the border. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a high-level security review meeting in Delhi, directed forces to remain vigilant as winter sets in, warning that terrorists may attempt to exploit snowfall and poor visibility to cross the LoC.
The meeting, attended by J&amp;K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Army Chief, and senior security officials, reviewed the ground situation and ongoing counter-terror operations. Shah emphasized the need for coordination between intelligence agencies and ground forces to prevent any infiltration attempts in the coming months.
