A suspected terrorist infiltration attempt was foiled by the Indian Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir early Wednesday. A gunfight is underway as security forces engage the intruders.
The White Knight Corps, based in Nagrota, posted on X (formerly Twitter):
&ldquo;Suspected movement of two individuals was observed by own troops along the fence in general area of #Poonch Sector. Gunfire exchanged. Operation under progress.&rdquo;
Initial reports confirm that the infiltrators attempted to breach the border fence, but were intercepted in time. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, with engagement still ongoing.
This development comes just two days after the elimination of three key Pakistani terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians, including 25 tourists, were killed.
The trio&mdash;Suleman Shah (LeT commander), Abu Hamza, and Jibran Bhai were neutralised in Operation Mahadev, a high-altitude strike carried out jointly by the Army, CRPF, and J&amp;K Police in Dachigam National Park near Mahadev Peak, Srinagar.
Speaking in Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed their role in the Pahalgam attack, citing intelligence and eyewitness accounts. The killings had sparked national outrage and prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to authorise targeted strikes on terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK, including Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.
Pakistan retaliated with heavy shelling on civilian areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, escalating tensions across the border.
The Indian Armed Forces responded strongly, destroying 11 Pakistani defence installations before a ceasefire proposal from Pakistan was accepted&mdash;without halting ongoing Operation Sindoor.
Security remains tight across J&amp;K as the forces continue their counterterror operations to secure the region.
