Alert soldiers successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of J&amp;K&rsquo;s Baramulla district on Monday, the Army said.
&ldquo;Troops detected suspicious movement and immediately opened fire,&rdquo; an Army official stated, adding that search operations in the area were underway.
The incident comes days after two soldiers, Havildar Ankit Kumar and Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, lost their lives during operational duties in the Uri sector on August 13.
The 740-km-long LoC has remained largely calm since May 10 this year, when India and Pakistan agreed to end four days of intense cross-border firing and missile exchanges following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local resident, were killed by Pakistan-backed LeT terrorists.
Earlier, on August 13, security forces in Kupwara district recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and narcotics. The seizure included a Chinese 9 mm pistol with two magazines and five rounds, three AK-47 magazines with 260 rounds, four UBGL grenades, an IED/mine, detonators, 30 mine fuses with wire, Pakistani-made hand grenades, two battery connectors, and 16 sachets of brown sugar. A handbag with a Pakistani address written in Urdu was also recovered.
