A powerful explosion at a firecracker factory near Atrasi village in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, has left five women dead and over 12 seriously injured. The blast occurred on Monday morning and completely flattened the factory's building and tin shed, scattering debris over a 300-meter radius.
According to officials, around 25 workers, mostly men and women, were inside the factory located 2 km into the forest when a child of one of the laborers accidentally lit a sparkler. This triggered a massive fire as nearby firecrackers and gunpowder ignited, leading to continuous explosions for nearly 15 minutes.
The intensity of the blast buried several workers under the rubble. Villagers rushed to the scene after hearing loud explosions and seeing smoke billowing into the sky. Authorities were quickly alerted.
District Magistrate Nidhi Gupta and Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand are supervising the relief and rescue operations at the site. Fire brigade teams are on the ground, attempting to clear the debris and rescue trapped workers. The critically injured have been admitted to the district hospital, with many still in a precarious condition.
